Ted Bailey nasce in Florida il 16 agosto 1950. La sua famiglia ha vissuto nella zona del Canale di Panama fino alla sua apertura nell'anno 1914. All'età di 3 anni si trasferisce a Panama dove resta fino al 1968, per tornare nuovamente negli USA. Dopo il college frequenta la California State University, a Sacramento, dove - nel 1977 - ottiene il "Bachelor of Science" (BS) in Ingegneria Civile e il "Master of Science" (MS) in Ingegneria Meccanica.
Ha lavorato attraverso gli USA per varie compagnie di Ingegneria Aeronautica come la General Electric e la Pratt & Whitney Aircraft.
Ora conduce una vita semi ritirata nella città di Ann Arbor, Michigan.
E' stato sposato per 33 anni ed ha due figli che vivono e lavorano ad Ann Arbor.
Ha iniziato ad interessarsi di boomerang nel 1974, quando era ancora studente di ingegneria, e sin da allora aveva già imparato a costruirli e lanciarli. Nei primi Anni 80 ha cominciato a collezionare autentici boomerang aborigeni studiando ed apprendendo le loro proprietà tecniche. Giorno dopo giorno si è sempre più addentrato nella conoscenza dell'arte, della musica e soprattutto dell'artigiano aborigeno e dei suoi affascinanti metodi di produzione di manufatti in legno. Continua, a tutt'oggi, a collezionare manufatti aborigeni da tutto il mondo in modo da poter studiare le meravigliose tecniche delle popolazioni native australiane che provengono, come egli stesso dice, "Da tutte le regioni di questo bel Pianeta che noi tutti dividiamo".

Ted Bailey was born on 16 August 1950 in Florida, USA. His family has lived in the Panama Canal Zone since the Panama Canal opened in 1914.
He moved to Panama when he was 3 years old and lived there until he went to college in the USA in 1968. He graduated from California State University - Sacramento in 1977 with a BS in Civil Engineering and a MS in Mechanical Engineering. He has worked throughout the USA for Aircraft Engineering companies such as General Electric and Pratt & Whitney Aircraft. He is, currently, semi-retired and live in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He has been married for 33 years and has 2 sons who also live and work in Ann Arbor. He first became interest in boomerangs in 1974 when he was an Engineering student. He has made and thrown boomerangs ever since. In the early 1980s, he started collecting Aboriginal boomerangs so that he could study advanced features of their technologies. He soon became interested in Australian Aboriginal art, music and other wooden artifacts because of their beautiful construction methods.
He continues to collect artifacts from all over the world so that he can study the wonderful technologies of Aboriginal peoples "from all regions of this beautiful planet that we all share" as he's used to say.
